How A Contact Lens Can Benefit An Individual?

Contact lens fitting - The amount of benefits of using contact lenses compensate for its higher costs. Contact lenses deliver both visual and aesthetic benefits to the user. At the outset, some people may feel uneasy but as time progresses they become perfectly comfortable with it.

It was in the early 16th century when the idea of contact lenses first came into the mind of Leonardo Da Vinci, a painter by profession and a scientist by passion. Yet the idea took more than 3 centuries to become a reality. It was in the late 1800’s when a group of European surgeons first used contact lenses as a remedy for shortsightedness.

But in the early years of contact lenses, it could only be worn for a short span of time because of the material used in manufacturing. Later flexible and sof plastic was used as a raw material for manufacturing contact lenses and credit goes to Kevin Tuohy, an American surgeon for manufacturing the contact lenses we use today.

There are numerous advantages of contact lenses over conventional spectacles. To name a few contact lenses gives an undistorted clear vision to the eye, is useful in moist weather conditions, comfortable to wear, gives unwavering stable vision and most important of all one doesn’t look like a nerd after wearing them.

Eye care professionals suggest that using contact lenses puts less strain on one’s eyes than using spectacles. The reason being, contact lenses move along with one’s eyes unlike spectacles. They are worn on the surface of the eye and there is no gap between the eye and the lenses.

Whereas, spectacles are not in contact with the eye. Contact lenses gives you an altogether new look. One can wear them while playing tennis or even while swimming. People who have never used them think that wearing a contact lens may cause itching in the eye etc.

But this is only a myth. Gone are the days when hard plastic was used to manufacture them. The contact lenses available today like Acuvue are perfectly comfortable to wear and do not cause any itching at all.
